Oasis' "Wonderwall" Becomes England's Unofficial World Cup Anthem

The 1995 Oasis classic "Wonderwall" has emerged as England's signature song throughout the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the team and its supporters joining in chorus after each match victory as the squad advances toward the semifinals.

According to ESPN, teams coordinate with FIFA on their in-stadium playlists. England's post-match selections have featured "Wonderwall" alongside The Beatles' "Hey Jude"—a tribute to star player Jude Bellingham—and Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline."

One of the tournament's standout moments came when England players and fans united to sing the track following the team's win over Croatia in Dallas.

Captain Harry Kane reflected on the experience: "That was one of my favorite ever moments in an England shirt and especially at a major tournament. I know it's just the first game and we're not getting carried away, but just that emotional connection with the fans. We know how much it means to them. I think they see how much it means to us. We have that connection right now but just that moment, singing 'Wonderwall' in the stadium. Everyone knew the words and that was a really special moment."

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford echoed the sentiment, saying: "We all thrive off it. And when they're coming out in full force like they are, I think it's only going to get better as well. The next two games, I think we'll see a lot more numbers [of fans] coming over. We all love it. We're all passionate people, and we know the England fans are passionate as well. It drives us."

The tradition has gained unexpected support from Oasis musician Noel Gallagher. The songwriter recently texted talkSPORT presenter Jason Cundy, who shared the message live on air. Gallagher stated: "For your information, that song belongs to the people," adding his approval of the moment when Kane spoke about the special connection with supporters. Gallagher concluded: "I don't see it as my song. I thought it was a brilliant moment. 'Anything but Sweet Caroline,' block caps."
