Meet Leonita Lekaj: Granit Xhaka's Wife and Family

Granit Xhaka is taking the field tonight for Switzerland against Argentina in the 2026 World Cup, serving as captain for his national team.
The 33-year-old defensive midfielder is making his fourth consecutive World Cup appearance, adding to an impressive international resume. Across the tournaments in 2014, 2018, 2022, and now 2026, Xhaka has logged 12 World Cup matches—a record for Swiss players.
Behind the scenes, the Arsenal and Sunderland AFC veteran has a strong support system in his wife, Leonita Lekaj. The couple began their relationship in 2015 and exchanged vows two years later in 2017.
Leonita hails from Albania and spent her formative years in Kosovo before relocating to Germany as a child. She has built a career as a model and social media influencer, frequently sharing glimpses of family life on her platforms alongside photos with Granit and their children.
The pair has welcomed three daughters since starting their family in 2019. Their eldest, Ayana, was born that same year. Laneya followed in 2021, and their youngest, Neyana, arrived in March 2025.
Throughout Xhaka's career moves across Europe, Leonita has been a consistent presence at his matches and major competitions, supporting him from the stands as his club and country have taken him around the continent.
Currently, Xhaka competes for Sunderland AFC in the Premier League when not representing Switzerland on the international stage.
