'The Five Star Weekend' Awaits Renewal Decision as Showrunner Reveals Season 2 Plans

Jennifer Garner's latest project is making waves at Peacock. The Five Star Weekend launched on the streaming platform Thursday, July 9, bringing together an ensemble cast that includes D'Arcy Carden, Gemma Chan, Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, Harlow Jane, and Timothy Olyphant. The supporting cast rounds out with Rob Huebel, David Denman, Josh Hamilton, West Duchovny, Judy Greer, Tory Devon Smith, Morrison Keddie, and Roberta Colindrez.

The series centers on Hollis Shaw, a celebrated chef and bestselling author navigating life after tragedy. When a devastating loss threatens to unravel her carefully constructed world, Hollis discovers cracks in her marriage, her relationship with her daughter, and her dependence on public adoration. Seeking healing and self-discovery, she orchestrates a weekend retreat at her Nantucket home, inviting three friends spanning different chapters of her life—plus one mysterious fifth guest. Against a backdrop of coastal elegance, the gathering becomes a transformative experience where boundaries blur and hidden truths emerge.

Initial reception has been positive, yet the platform hasn't confirmed whether the show will continue beyond its debut season. That hasn't stopped showrunner Bekah Brunstetter from mapping out what could come next.

Speaking with TheWrap, Brunstetter expressed enthusiasm about deepening the dynamic between Hollis and Jack, played by Olyphant. "My hope is that if we get to do more seasons, I can dig into that a little bit more, because the first season is definitely the story of her grief — I'm really interested to see what their relationship would actually be like once they have the second chance," she said.

The creative vision for potential future installments takes an expansive approach. Brunstetter revealed that producers are considering sending the characters to different vacation destinations in subsequent seasons, with the possibility of rotating in new ensemble members for the "fifth star" role each time.

"They could go on vacations forever," Brunstetter teased, suggesting the format offers flexibility for casting fresh talent. "You could just find someone who really wants to do it, some amazing actor who's really interested in doing this, and … talk to them about what they want to play and what they feel like their strengths are and what they're interested in."

Regarding the existing cast, Brunstetter indicated that Gigi (Chan) would likely sit out future getaways, though her character wouldn't disappear entirely from the narrative. Meanwhile, Electra (Judy Greer) could evolve into a running gag, mysteriously appearing at each new destination regardless of the setting.

For now, fans await word on whether Peacock will greenlight additional seasons of the drama.
