Details surrounding his passing emerged on Wednesday, July 15, when his manager Philip Grenz confirmed to TMZ that pneumonia was the cause of death.

Neill had recently celebrated a major health milestone. In April, he announced he was cancer-free after receiving CAR-T therapy, a specialized treatment for his stage three blood cancer diagnosis from March 2022. His manager emphasized that Neill had fought lymphoma with remarkable determination before succumbing to pneumonia.

Journalist Laura Tingle, Neill's former partner, reflected on his final days, noting that the cancer had taken a significant physical toll on his body over time.

A private service honoring Neill's memory will take place at his farm in New Zealand, attended by family and close friends only. No public memorial or celebration of life is planned.

In lieu of flowers, Neill's family has requested that well-wishers consider making donations to causes that mattered deeply to him. These include the Dunstan Hospital Foundation, The Snowdome Foundation, and New Zealand-based organizations dedicated to wildlife conservation and environmental protection, such as the NZ Nature Fund and Sustainable Tarras.
