Mick Jagger Weighs In on John Mulaney's Comments About His Demeanor

Mick Jagger has responded to John Mulaney's recent comedy bit, where the comedian suggested the Rolling Stones legend wasn't the friendliest person to work with.

During a segment in his special Kid Gorgeous, Mulaney recounted his experience hosting Saturday Night Live in 2012 alongside Jagger. When friends asked if the rock icon was nice, Mulaney said no, before adding nuance to his assessment. "Or maybe he is, for his version of life, 'cause he has a very different life," the comedian explained.

Mulaney went on to theorize about how Jagger's extraordinary career has reshaped his personality. Having performed for stadium crowds of 20,000 people worshipping him for five decades, Mulaney suggested, would inevitably transform anyone. "If you do that for 50 years, you're never again gonna be like, 'Um, does anyone have a laptop charger I could borrow?' You know that bulls–t way we all have to talk to get through life?" he said.

In a recent conversation with The New York Times, Jagger acknowledged he hasn't actually seen the special but responded thoughtfully to Mulaney's observations about his fame. "Obviously, it's not normal. It is not like most people's lives. It does affect you. You can become disassociated," Jagger said.

The musician noted that entertainment industry circles tend to reinforce this disconnect. "A lot of people in show business only hang around with people in show business, because they've got something in common, they can relate to each other, and you get disassociated from what people might call 'real life,'" he explained.

Despite this tendency, Jagger emphasized that he makes deliberate efforts to stay grounded. "It's quite easy, really," he revealed. "You go out and walk on the street on your own and do normal things, go and buy The New York Times."

Jagger also clarified that his public persona differs substantially from his private self, and that this ability to compartmentalize has developed over time. "It comes with age," he noted.
