Leven Rambin Reveals Serious Complication During Surgery: Aorta Was Accidentally Nicked

Leven Rambin is in recovery following a harrowing surgical emergency that unfolded this week.

The 36-year-old Grey's Anatomy star entered the hospital expecting a straightforward endoscopic laparoscopy procedure but woke to find herself in the intensive care unit facing a very different situation.

"The complications were complicated," Rambin explained in a post-surgery update shared on social media. She later disclosed that her surgeon had "accidentally nicked [her] aorta," the body's largest artery.

"I woke up with a bunch of doctors and surgeons saying that I was lucky to be alive," she recounted in a subsequent video.

What was meant to be an endometriosis treatment rapidly escalated into an emergency intervention. The surgical team worked to repair the damaged vessel, which necessitated a blood transfusion and an extensive course of medications for Rambin.
