Katie Couric Opens Up About Transient Global Amnesia Episode During Colorado Trip

Katie Couric has disclosed a concerning health episode that unfolded while she was attending the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado with her husband, John Molner.

The veteran broadcaster, 69, recounted the incident in a Substack post dated July 6, describing it as "The Day I'll Never Remember." The episode took place on June 27, when Couric and her husband were at the festival for professional engagements.

The day began normally, with both Couric and Molner attending festival events before heading to the Aspen Institute, where she was scheduled to participate in two panel discussions. Couric noted that eating lunch from a hot dog stand marked the last moment she could recall clearly.

Following her panel appearances, Molner and one of Couric's interns noticed something was off. Her behavior seemed unusual enough to warrant a visit to Aspen Valley Hospital for evaluation.

During her assessment at the hospital, Couric underwent cognitive testing. When questioned about the current month, year, and the sitting president, her answers were incorrect. She believed the year was 2024 and thought Joe Biden held the presidency at the time of the incident.

Medical staff initiated stroke evaluation protocols, but an MRI scan ruled out a cerebrovascular event. A neurologist subsequently diagnosed Couric with transient global amnesia, or TGA—a condition characterized by sudden, temporary disruption in the ability to form new memories.

Reflecting on the experience, Couric acknowledged the frightening nature of what occurred while expressing gratitude that the situation didn't escalate further. She noted that despite the relief of receiving answers, an entire Saturday in June remains inaccessible to her memory.
