Justin Baldoni and Emily Emerge From Legal Battle, Share First Public Statement in Two Years

After nearly two years of legal proceedings, Justin Baldoni and his wife Emily have broken their silence on their dispute with Blake Lively. The 42-year-old actor and director, alongside Emily, 41, posted a video to Instagram on Wednesday, July 8, marking their first public remarks since a settlement was reached.

In the video, Justin explained the couple's extended absence from public commentary. "We have not spoken publicly for the better part of the last two years, and it's not because we haven't had anything to say," he said. "But it just felt like every time we went to make a video like this, we wanted to speak, something was telling us not to. It just didn't feel like the right time."

Emily echoed his sentiment, noting that the current moment felt appropriate to finally share their perspective. "This feels like the moment. There's so much to say," she stated.

The legal conflict originated in December 2024 when Blake, 38, leveled accusations of sexual harassment and retaliation connected to their work together on It Ends With Us. Justin contested these claims and subsequently filed a $400 million lawsuit against her. By June 2025, the entire suit had been dismissed. The settlement itself became public knowledge in May 2026. Most recently, in June 2026, a federal judge determined that Blake was entitled to recover attorneys' fees and litigation costs, with her seeking more than $8 million.

Throughout the video, the couple emphasized their gratitude. "Gratitude has saved us," Justin said, while Emily stressed that their appreciation extended to numerous people and circumstances they had experienced. However, Emily was careful to clarify that this gratitude does not erase the difficulties they faced. "It doesn't negate the injustice and the pain that we have also felt in the last few years," she explained. "We've had to wrestle with so many things and try to understand so many things, like how could something like this even happen? Let alone disguised as a fight for women."

Emily also disclosed that the couple has endured "a lot of trauma" that complicates their ability to speak freely about events.

Regarding his decision to remain quiet during the legal process, Justin reflected on the public discourse surrounding the case. "There have been so many painful things that have been spoken into existence over the last couple of years. That created so much noise, and we didn't want to add to the noise. So we just wanted to let the justice system run its course," he said.

Emily reinforced this stance, asserting that "the truth and the facts have spoken for themselves."

When discussing their current state, Justin described their healing journey as ongoing and nonlinear. "If you've ever been through something traumatic, you know that healing isn't linear. It looks different every day," he reflected. "We have had to rethink for ourselves what is real, and what matters. It's this. It's our family, it's our friends, it's our community, who have been their for us, it's our faith."

The couple noted that their experience has deepened their relationship and spiritual commitment. "We have grown closer, more devoted, and steadfast in our faith than we've ever been," Justin shared. He also expressed gratitude to those who supported them, saying their backing proved instrumental to their ability to navigate the situation. "You have given your time to fight for us. Thank you does not feel like enough. But we're here, in large part, because of so many of you, and all of our friends and family."

Justin concluded by reflecting on a key takeaway from their ordeal. "When God presses the reset button, and everything else is stripped away, that's when love shows up," he said.

Emily concurred and hinted that more discussion may follow in the future. "There's so much more to say. The time will come. But for now, we are going to focus on continuing the healing and hanging out with our kiddos and enjoying life," she said.
