Broadway Star Josh Grisetti Dead at 44

Josh Grisetti, the Tony-nominated actor and director, has died at 44. His death occurred on Friday, July 10, according to friends who revealed he died by suicide.

The performer was widely known for his work on the Broadway stage, including prominent roles in the musicals "It Shoulda Been You" and "Something Rotten!" His passing prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues who worked alongside him.

Rob McClure, Grisetti's co-star in "Something Rotten!", shared news of his death on Instagram, describing his grief and the impact Grisetti had on those around him. "Some of my all-time favorite memories were by this man's side, playing his brother onstage for years, watching him inspire students while transforming the Musical Theatre program at Cal State Fullerton …and having the honor of being the Best Man at his wedding," McClure wrote on July 12. He noted that Grisetti's loss would be felt across multiple theatrical communities.

Sierra Boggess, who starred opposite Grisetti in "It Shoulda Been You," also posted a tribute on social media, highlighting his talents as a performer, director, and writer. "He created light and thought and humor everywhere he went," she wrote. "He was a BRILLIANT actor and director and writer." Boggess emphasized the close bond formed between cast members and reflected on Grisetti's unique perspective on the world and his gift for philosophical conversation.

Beyond his Broadway success, Grisetti appeared in television and film projects, including a recurring role in the fifth season of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." His other credits span shows like "The Good Fight" and "Nurse Jackie," as well as films including "Men in Black 3" and "The Immigrant."

Grisetti was married to Mackenzie, whom he wed in 2020. Just days before his death, he had posted on social media about departing a production of "Legally Blonde" at the Trentino Music Festival, citing personal reasons. In that message, he thanked the cast and crew for their support, noting that their gestures meant a great deal during a difficult time.
