David Beckham Responds to England's World Cup Semifinal Defeat Against Argentina

England's World Cup dreams came to an end on Wednesday with a 2-1 semifinal loss to defending champion Argentina at Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
The 51-year-old retired footballer took to Instagram following the match to express his feelings about the elimination. "Heartbreak for us all but memories that inspire and last forever," Beckham wrote, before extending his gratitude to those involved. "Thank you to our team, our fans & our country for what you have given us in this World Cup," he continued.
Beckham's own World Cup journey with England spanned three tournaments, during which the team reached the quarterfinals on two occasions but never advanced further. The nation's most recent World Cup triumph dates back to 1966—three years before Beckham was born.
Argentina will advance to face Spain in the final on Sunday, July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium, also known as MetLife Stadium, in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
