Benny Blanco on the Private Phase With Selena Gomez Before Going Public

Benny Blanco is sharing intimate details about the early stages of his relationship with Selena Gomez.

The 38-year-old musician opened up in a recent sit-down with El País, reflecting on how he and the 33-year-old singer navigated the beginning of their romance.

When discussing the couple's decision to maintain secrecy about their relationship, Blanco explained the timeline and a crucial conversation that took place. "We kept our relationship private for a long time, about eight or nine months," he revealed. "And she asked me, 'Are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you want us to just be friends.' And then I said, 'You know what? Screw it.'"

He credited their ability to weather the transition to their strong support system. "We're lucky because we both have friends and family we've known since before all this, and we're surrounded by a good group of people we love," Blanco added.

The musician also addressed his general approach to sharing his personal life publicly. "I don't like to expose my life. Famous people are under constant scrutiny: if you say one thing, it's wrong, and if you say another, it's also wrong," he explained.

While Blanco expressed a desire for greater privacy, he acknowledged his unique position as someone who came of age before social media became dominant. "I'm part of that transitional generation where social media didn't exist when I was a child," he noted.

His current approach to social platforms remains measured. "I occasionally post a picture of my wife or some delicious dish I've tried" and focus on promoting his music, he said.

Blanco and Gomez tied the knot in September 2025 in an intimate ceremony surrounded by close friends and family from the entertainment world.
