Patience Season 2 Arrives on PBS: New Cast Member Joins Ella Maisy Purvis for Crime-Solving Return

The autistic detective drama Patience is returning for its second season, with all eight episodes set to premiere on Sunday, May 31. The complete season will be available simultaneously across PBS.org, the PBS app, PBS Passport, and PBS Masterpiece on Prime Video.

The upcoming season welcomes a fresh ensemble that includes Ella Maisy Purvis, Jessica Hynes, Nathan Welsh, Mark Benton, Adrian Rawlins, Tom Lewis, Ali Ariaie, and Liza Sadovy.

Jessica Hynes takes on the role of Detective Inspector Frankie Monroe, stepping into the position vacated by Laura Fraser's D.I. Bea Metcalf. Fraser has remained silent about her departure, though she was cast in the project Mint around the time Season 2 entered production, suggesting a possible scheduling conflict.

The show follows Patience Evans, an autistic woman working in York's Criminal Records Office. Season 2 introduces her new partner in crime-solving, with their contrasting approaches creating friction as they work to solve cases together. The season also explores Patience's personal journey as she searches for her mother and pursues a romantic connection.

Beginning June 14 through August 2, PBS will air the series on Sunday evenings at 8 p.m. ET.

What to expect across Season 2:

The eight-episode arc kicks off with "Vampire," where a photographer's unusual death sends Patience searching for logical answers while her new partner makes an immediate impact. Episode two, "Music In The Minster," takes the investigation into York's cathedral when a music student and professor die under mysterious circumstances.

"The Magpie" features a boardroom shooting that leads into the world of stage magic, while "The Timetable" centers on an autistic witness to a crime at a railway museum. A Viking expert's death before a major speech drives "The Runes," with coded messages pointing to deeper mysteries.

In "Paco's Revenge," a death in the botanical gardens splits Patience and Frankie's opinions on whether foul play was involved. A monk discovered in prayer becomes the focus of "A Monk's Tale," as Patience gains public recognition as the face of York's police department. The season concludes with "Hostage," where the two detectives face captivity from an escaped prisoner while Patience confronts her feelings for Elliot.
