John Travolta is sticking with his distinctive beret aesthetic as he makes the promotional rounds for Propeller One-Way Night Coach, marking his first feature as a director.

The actor, now 72, stayed true to the look during a SiriusXM Front Row panel held Wednesday, May 20, in New York City. He was accompanied by several cast members, including Clark Shotwell, Kelly Eviston-Quinnett, and his daughter Ella Bleu Travolta.

The beret has become a fixture of Travolta's recent appearances, including during the film's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier in the week, where he wore multiple iterations of the classic headwear.

When asked about the styling choice at Cannes, Travolta explained his reasoning in an interview with CNN. "The old school directors wore berets and the glasses," he said. "I thought, that's what I'm doing."

He elaborated on his approach: "I've been around for over 50 years doing movies, but I can't tell, when I look back, the difference between the events. And I said, 'I'm a director this time. You're an actor, play the part of a director. Look like an old school director.'"

Travolta noted that he conducted research to inform the aesthetic, studying photographs of renowned filmmakers from earlier eras to capture the vintage directorial style.

Beyond helming the project, Travolta also wrote the screenplay and takes on an acting role, portraying an older incarnation of the story's protagonist.

The film is set during aviation's golden age and follows a young plane enthusiast named Jeff (Shotwell) and his mother (Eviston-Quinnett) as they embark on a one-way cross-country journey to Hollywood. The narrative unfolds across airplane cabins and first-class quarters, featuring flight attendants played by Ella Bleu Travolta and Olga Hoffmann. The voyage becomes transformative, filled with unexpected moments and encounters that shape the young man's trajectory.
