Halsey and Avan Jogia Make Red Carpet Appearance at Cannes for Their New Horror Project

Halsey and Avan Jogia brought their professional collaboration to the spotlight at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival this week. The engaged pair appeared at Monday night's premiere of "Her Private Hell" in Cannes, France on May 18, as they continue their festival presence to showcase their upcoming project to industry buyers.

The couple is behind the psycho-sexual horror film "Replacer," with Halsey taking on a starring role while also serving as co-writer alongside Jogia, who is attached to direct. According to reports, the story follows Proxy, a troubled DJ played by Halsey who finds herself stranded in Montreal. There, she encounters a charismatic artist and his circle of friends who operate an underground radio station. When the station's signal becomes corrupted by something mysterious emanating from beneath the city's subway tunnels, Proxy faces a race against time to escape before the unexplained phenomenon transforms her and those around her into something unrecognizable and primal.

Jogia shared his vision for the project in a statement, describing it as "a bright and electric club horror mashed together with a vulnerable romantic story about belonging and community. Come together. Leave as one."

The film has attracted notable talent behind the scenes. Lilly Wachowski, known for co-directing "The Matrix," is serving as an executive producer on the venture. Wachowski praised the creative direction of the piece, noting that the script represents "a surreal hyper-dive into a twitchy, conspiratorial genre mashing snarl of horror/thriller/comedy, set against the grit and grime of a rarely glimpsed Montreal subculture." She also highlighted Jogia's cinematic influences, observing that his sensibilities appear shaped by filmmakers like David Cronenberg, Alex Cox, Tony Scott, and John Carpenter. Wachowski's production company, Anarchists United, is joining the team to bring the project to fruition.
