Trump Unveils Construction Details on $400 Million White House Ballroom

President Donald Trump provided members of the press with an inside look at the construction progress of his $400 million ballroom project situated adjacent to the White House during a Tuesday press conference held outside the residence in Washington, DC on May 19.

The 79-year-old commander-in-chief's ballroom initiative has drawn considerable scrutiny since its announcement, largely stemming from plans to demolish the White House's existing East Wing to make room for the structure. A federal judge issued a ruling in March requiring Trump to suspend construction work pending Congressional approval to proceed.

During his remarks to reporters, Trump outlined several distinctive characteristics of the ballroom. He emphasized the project's substantial underground scope, noting that excavation had already reached two floors below ground level, extending approximately six stories deep—a departure from typical ballroom construction methods.

"Normally, when you build a ballroom, you build it flat. You just throw the ballroom. It would have been built," Trump explained to the gathered press.

The president highlighted the windows as a particularly notable feature, describing them as significantly thicker than those in any previous ballroom he has constructed. While his standard glass measures approximately a quarter of an inch thick, the new ballroom will feature windows measuring about 6 inches in thickness, he stated, adding that this thickness enables the structure to resist various types of weapons.

Trump also noted the facility's defensive capabilities, mentioning that the height and positioning of the structure would provide clear sightlines across Washington for protective purposes.

Beyond the ballroom itself, the complex will incorporate a hospital, research facilities, and multiple meeting rooms, according to Trump's description of the project.
