Broadway Stars Take Center Stage in Reimagined 'Brigadoon' at Pasadena Playhouse

The Pasadena Playhouse in Los Angeles welcomed a fresh take on the timeless Lerner & Loewe musical "Brigadoon" this week, bringing together a stellar cast of Broadway veterans for the production's opening night on Sunday, May 17.
Tony nominee Max von Essen headlines the ensemble as Tommy Albright, joined by Betsy Morgan in the role of Fiona MacLaren and Tony winner Tyne Daly as Widow Lundie. The supporting cast features Happy Anderson as Jeff Douglas, Daniel Yearwood as Charlie Dalrymple, and Donna Vivino as Meg Brockie—all performers with extensive Broadway resumes.
Alexandra Silber has reimagined the classic story for contemporary audiences, updating the book while preserving the beloved Lerner & Loewe score. The production centers on two American travelers who become lost in the Scottish Highlands and discover Brigadoon, an enchanted village that materializes for only a single day every century. Against a backdrop of live orchestration and sweeping choreography, the narrative unfolds as a romantic exploration of how love transcends time and logic.
The production retains the musical's most iconic numbers, including "Almost Like Being In Love" and "The Heather on the Hill," while presenting them through what Silber describes as a more culturally relevant lens. "You'll hear every song and you'll hear and see all of the story, hopefully just told through a new lens that feels more relevant to who we are today," she explained to Spectrum News.
The engagement runs through June 14.
