Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Wimbledon 2026 as Wrist Injury Continues to Sideline Him

Carlos Alcaraz will sit out Wimbledon this summer as he continues to recover from a wrist injury that has sidelined him for months.
The 23-year-old Spanish star announced his withdrawal on social media Tuesday, May 19, explaining that while his rehabilitation is progressing positively, he remains unable to compete at the professional level required for the tournament.
The seven-time Grand Slam winner first suffered the wrist injury during a match at the 2026 Barcelona Open on April 14. At that time, he described the incident to reporters, saying his "wrist gave way" and that he experienced "a discomfort that gradually increased" as the match progressed. He subsequently pulled out of that event.
The setback has proven more serious than initially anticipated. Alcaraz has since withdrawn from both the 2026 Rome Open and the 2026 French Open to allow additional time for healing.
His statement regarding the Wimbledon decision reflected cautious optimism about his progress while acknowledging the reality of his current situation. "My recovery is going well and I'm feeling much better, but unfortunately I'm still not ready to compete, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen's and Wimbledon. They are two truly special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot. We'll keep working to come back as soon as possible!" he shared.
In recent remarks about his career trajectory, Alcaraz opened up about the importance of rest and recovery. "There's been times in which I didn't stop to take a break and that led to me not playing well, or becoming injured, or… Let's just leave it at that, that it didn't end well," he reflected on the consequences of pushing through without adequate downtime.
