Beaches: A New Musical Concludes Broadway Run Following Tony Awards Snub

Beaches is coming to the end of its Broadway journey sooner than initially planned.
The musical, which launched preview performances on March 27 before its official opening on April 22, will now close on Sunday, May 24—significantly ahead of its previously scheduled September 6 finale. The early shutdown comes after the production faced sluggish ticket sales combined with receiving no Tony Award nominations whatsoever.
Jessica Vosk carries the show as the vibrant Cee Cee Bloom, the role made famous by Bette Midler in the original film adaptation. Vosk's performance earned widespread praise from reviewers, though the production as a whole drew mixed-to-negative critical responses.
Based on the bestselling novel and subsequent film, Beaches charts the complex bond between two women across three decades. The musical follows the spirited Cee Cee and refined Bertie from their childhood meeting through their evolution as pen pals, roommates, and ultimately romantic rivals, as their unlikely friendship navigates profound personal challenges.
Vosk addressed the Tony Awards exclusion in a TikTok post earlier this month, sharing her feelings about missing out on recognition alongside other talented performers. "It's the first time I've sat with the possibility of even being nominated for anything Tony-wise, and it was really exciting," she said. "And while I wish I could also be up there with all those incredible ladies, it's been incredible to watch them all season and even be a part of the conversation."
Despite the Broadway curtain call, the show isn't disappearing entirely. A national tour is slated to launch in 2027, bringing the musical to regional markets across the country. Final performance tickets remain available for purchase.
